Natural Ways to Clean Your Wooden Cutting Board

If you're anything like me, your wooden cutting board is one of your most-used kitchen tools. It's sturdy, reliable, and adds a rustic charm to any kitchen space. But keeping it clean and well-maintained without damaging the wood can feel like a challenge. Over the years, I’ve discovered some simple, natural ways to clean and care for my wooden cutting board—and today, I’m excited to share them with you.

1. Start with a Quick Rinse
After every use, I make sure to rinse my wooden cutting board with warm water (never hot, as it can warp the wood). I avoid soaking it because wood is porous and can absorb water, leading to cracks over time.

5. Always Air Dry Upright
After cleaning, I always let my wooden cutting board air dry upright. This prevents water from pooling on one side and helps avoid warping.
6. Oil Your Cutting Board Regularly
To keep my board looking fresh and prevent it from drying out, I condition it with this food-grade mineral oil about once a month. Enriched with lemon and orange oils, it makes the board smell great! I apply a generous amount, let it soak overnight, and then wipe off any excess.
7. Avoid Harsh Detergents and Dishwashers
As tempting as it might be to toss my cutting board in the dishwasher, I avoid it at all costs. Harsh detergents and high heat can cause damage and cracking.
